Do blondes really have more fun? While science may never give us an answer, the staff at Blondeterage Salon are ready to make your hair dreams come true. Specializing in color treatments, this full-service salon can be found in the River West neighborhood of the District.
How, when and why did you start your business?
I opened on November 1, 2021. A big influence on me opening my salon was the passing of my father. He had a very heavy influence on my life growing up and just encouraging me to have a strong work ethic.
What makes your business unique?
The stylists here are independent contractors; there are essentially four unique businesses under one roof. But we all believe in supporting each other so much. We all want to see each other grow and be as successful as possible.
Are there any services that separate you from other salons in the area?
Definitely! A big one is custom spray tans, which most hair salons don’t offer. We also get a lot of requests for extensions and color, and we’ve worked hard over the last couple of years to create our own extension line. It’s something that takes a lot of practice, to have good quality and affordable extension services. It can have a huge impact on someone’s self-esteem and confidence.
Why did you choose this location for your business?
It's probably one of the busiest intersections and is great for exposure. Lots of clients mention, “oh, I was driving by and I decided to make an appointment.”
What motivates you?
The biggest thing that kind of keeps me going every day is making others feel their best. And just being there for people - you'd be surprised how many clients treat hair appointments like a therapy session too. I like having a meaningful impact on someone's day.
How do you generate new ideas?
I see what’s trending, especially in bigger cities. I feel conflicted calling Wausau a rural setting, but we are a smaller city in the Midwest. It’s nice to kind of tweak new ideas to fit Wausau’s needs.
What excites you most about the future?
Growing the business with more stylists, and giving them that opportunity for their own growth. I’m excited to see the Wausau River District supporting and trying to grow businesses in the area.
